A credentialing specialist verifies providers' licenses, education, board certifications, malpractice history and work history, and enrolls physicians and other clinicians with Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payers so their services can be billed, then tracks re-credentialing and expirations.
They work for hospitals' medical staff offices, physician groups, billing companies, credentialing vendors and health plans; NAMSS offers the CPCS.
