A risk adjustment coder reviews medical records to capture the chronic conditions (HCCs) that set a patient's risk score for Medicare Advantage, ACA and Medicaid managed-care plans, in retrospective chart reviews or prospective pre-visit work.
Most hold the AAPC CRC or CPC, and they work for health plans, risk adjustment vendors and value-based provider groups, almost always remotely.
